Policy and Research
Through our policy and research work, we support Illinois residents learn about the path toward more equitable school funding to encourage them to contact their elected representatives and advocate for what their schools need. We demand policies that ensure all districts receive their fair share of state resources so every child has access to a quality education.
One key policy for education equity is the state’s Evidence Based Funding for Student Success Act (EBF). EBF is an comprehensive overhaul of Illinois’ school funding formula and was signed into law in August 2017. It requires an overall increase of more than $7 billion in state education aid and sets 2027 as the deadline to reach full funding of the EBF formula. To reach this goal, however, state aid must be increased by nearly $1.5 billion per year, far above the $350 million minimum being invested.

Evidence Based Funding for Student Success Act (EBF)
A key policy for education equity is the state’s Evidence Based Funding for Student Success Act (EBF). It’s essential that education advocates understand the current status of EBF and our lawmaker’s responsibility to fully fund this plan.
Our EBF workshop details the significance of the plan in helping erase district inequity in Illinois and how our voice is needed to push EBF implementation for the benefit of all children.
Look for our next EBF workshop or consider hosting a workshop in your community.
